Importing Mustangs and other cars from the USA
BUYING A CAR FROM THE USA
If you are considering the purchase of a car directly from the USA then the following points may save you a lot of headaches and possibly a lot of money.
1. Reliability
- Can you be sure that the car you have photographs of is the car you will receive in New Zealand?
2. Check
- Would you pay to ensure the car you receive is as described to you? If so have it checked by a reliable source.
3. Import
- Have you considered how you will import your new car into New Zealand?
4. Transport
- Do you want to bring it in by itself or in a container with others to save money?
5. Import License
- Do you have a "License to import"? If not you will need one (depending on circumstances we can supply you with one.)
6. Insurance
- Do you want to insure your vehicle while it is in transit ex USA – cost is approximately 1% of the value of the vehicle? (We can advise on people who will do this for you.)
7. Ports
- Where in New Zealand are you located? Some Ports are more 'user friendly' than others. (We can advise you on this.)
8. Transport within New Zealand
- When your car arrives in New Zealand how does it get from the Port of entry to you? (We can advise on transport.)
9. Charges you will incur
- Shipping to Port of exit
- Packing
- Sea Freight
- Customs entry
- Un-Packing
- Wharf fees: inspection, MAF fees, fumigation, agriculture
- Freight to & from all of the above
- Shipping to final destination
- GST
10. Insurance
- Insuring your car once it is in New Zealand
11. Vinning
- Do you understand what is needed to enable you to legally drive your car in New Zealand?
